Positive Technologies says finds malware used against 164 states
MOSCOW, Oct 25 (PRIME) -- Russian cybersecurity company Positive Technologies has uncovered a malware that hackers used to attack more than 250,000 users in 164 countries, mainly in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Uzbekistan, the company said in a research on Wednesday.
“With the system of monitoring of information security events and incident management MaxPatrol SIEM, Positive Technologies’ specialists uncovered an abnormal activity on the network pointing to large-scale spreading of malware,” the company said.
The victims also including users in India, the Philippines, Brazil, Poland, and Germany.
Positive Technologies said that the real number of the victims exceeds the figure and comprises state entities, educational facilities, and petrochemical companies, among others.
“In the case we monitored, the malware program sent collected information from a corporate laptop of a user to a Telegram bot, which acted as a controlling server in this chain,” Denis Kuvshinov, head of the cyberthreat research department of Positive Technologies’ security expert center, said.
